The Challenge: Managing Roof Junctions
Working on a roof that shares a boundary requires precision to ensure the new installation doesn’t compromise the neighboring property. The original Rosemary tiles on this roof had become porous and the battens were failing, necessitating a complete structural refresh while maintaining a watertight seal at the terrace junction.
The Technical Execution
Clean Demolition: We stripped the aging Rosemary tiles and timber battens, disposing of all materials in an on-site skip to maintain a clear and safe workspace.
Modern Sub-Structure: A premium breathable membrane was installed to provide a high-performance weather barrier while allowing the building to breathe. We then fitted new 2×1 treated timber lath battens, providing a reinforced foundation for the new tile weight.
Boundary Engineering (Hidden Valley): To guarantee a 100% watertight seal between this property and the neighbor’s, we installed a bespoke hidden valley. This specialist drainage detail ensures that water is effectively channeled away from the sensitive junction point, preventing internal dampness for both households.
Tile Selection: The roof was finished with Marley interlocking concrete tiles. These were chosen for their exceptional lap-seal and durability, providing a crisp, modern finish that drastically improves the property’s curb appeal.
The Result
A secure, weather-sealed roof that respects the integrity of the adjoining property. By utilizing a hidden valley and Marley interlocking technology, we have provided the homeowner with a robust, maintenance-free solution that looks fantastic from the street.
