Re-Roof in Meltham, Huddersfield

The Project Scope

This extensive residential project in Meltham required a complete strip-and-replace of a failing roof system. The goal was to replace aged, inefficient materials with a modern, high-performance solution that would eliminate the need for future mortar repairs and introduce natural light into the home’s interior.

Technical Implementation

  • Complete System Removal: We stripped the roof back to the rafters, removing and disposing of the old tiles, laths, and bitumen felt to make way for a fully modernized structure.

  • Climate Control: A new premium breathable membrane was installed across the entire roof. This is a crucial upgrade that allows for continuous airflow within the roof space, preventing condensation and timber rot while remaining 100% watertight.

  • Precision Battening & Tiling: We utilized heavy-duty 2×1 treated timber lath battens to support new concrete interlocking tiles. These tiles offer exceptional weather resistance and a clean, uniform finish that suits the Meltham landscape.

  • Maintenance-Free Finish: The customer opted for a Dry Verge and Dry Ridge system. By moving away from traditional mortar, we have provided a mechanical fix that won’t crack or erode over time, effectively ending the cycle of “re-pointing” maintenance.

  • Innovative Lighting: To brighten the property’s interior without a full window installation, we integrated two new fixed light tunnels. These tunnels capture natural light from the roofline and funnel it into darker areas of the home, dramatically improving the internal ambiance.

The Result

A high-spec, “dry-fix” roof that offers the perfect balance of structural durability and modern convenience. The addition of light tunnels has transformed the interior feel of the property, while the new roof provides peace of mind for decades to come.
